Q: Are implants removable like dentures?
A: No. Even in cases where implants support dentures, the implants are not removable. However, dentures are removable and can snap on and off of implants as if implants were normal teeth.
Q: Does getting a dental implant hurt?
A: It can hurt about as much as tooth extraction, but we use local anesthesia at Urgent Tooth so you don’t feel any pain during your procedure. When most patients realize that they are numb, they’re usually able to lay back in the chair and relax through the procedure. We also offer sedation.
Q: How do I know if I should get an implant?
A: Implants aren’t right for every patient, so we have a consultation beforehand to figure out what the best course of action is. For instance, implants aren’t a good choice for anyone with uncontrolled diabetes or a prolonged history of smoking.
Q: Can I get an implant on the same day as an extraction?
A: Depending on your situation, yes. We check to make sure there is enough bone to implant into before we decide. If there isn’t, we do a bone graft, which we have on hand in our office and can provide same day, so that in a few short months, your body will grow the bone you need to set an implant.
Q: How many implants do I need?
A: For a single missing tooth, you’ll need a single implant. We’ll make sure you have the right number of implants for your particular situation.
