What I’ve Been Working On

Sedation Dentistry

I just wanted to drop a quick note on the continuing education I experienced this summer.  Besides the fact that I enjoy learning, a requirement for maintaining a dental license in North Carolina is taking a moderate amount of continuing education. For the most part, you get to choose what you want to learn about.  The only requirement is that it must be related to patient care.

IV sedation.  That’s the course that’s been on my mind since graduating dental school. The only thing that’s kept me away from it was the time commitment, which is 7X the annual continuing ed requirement.  I’m pretty sure my wife got sick of me talking about it, because she took off for an extended vacation with the kids and I was able to put 6 weeks of focus on this course.  Thank you sweetie.

One thing I’ll say about my motivation as a dentist, is I just want to be useful to people. And it occurred to me very early on that offering IV sedation would remove a huge barrier for lots of patients. So we went the 7X route this summer! Thanks to Dr. Bertrand Bonnick and his team over at the Aristotle Institute in High Point, NC for providing an immersive, high value journey into the world of IV sedation.
